Traditional Craftsmanship with Modern Convenience

This project involved the construction of a bespoke carport and porch, designed to complement the character of the property while providing practical, sheltered outdoor spaces. Both structures were built using robust Douglas timber, chosen for its natural appearance, strength and suitability for outdoor construction.

A Carport Built to Last

The carport was constructed from solid Douglas timber, creating a strong and attractive structure that combines functionality with traditional craftsmanship. The natural character of the wood gives the construction a timeless appearance, allowing it to blend naturally with the surrounding property.

Looking towards the future, the carport has also been designed with sustainability in mind. The next stage of the project will be to install a roof made from solar panels, adding renewable energy generation to this practical outdoor structure.

A Welcoming Porch with Traditional Roof Tiles

Alongside the carport, we built a matching porch using the same robust Douglas timber. To ensure that the new structure complemented the existing house, the porch roof was finished with reclaimed old roof tiles.

The use of traditional tiles helps the porch blend seamlessly with the original architecture, creating the impression that it has always been part of the property.

Antique Lighting with a Modern Touch

To complete the porch, we installed an antique-style lamp fitted with a motion sensor. This combines traditional character with modern convenience.

When the owners arrive home after dark, the sensor automatically switches on the light, providing a welcoming entrance and improving visibility without the need to operate a switch manually.

Traditional Materials, Thoughtful Design

From the robust Douglas timber to the reclaimed roof tiles and antique lighting, every element was selected to create a harmonious result. The project demonstrates how traditional materials can be combined with modern functionality to produce structures that are both practical and in keeping with their surroundings.

With the planned addition of solar panels to the carport roof, the project will also incorporate a sustainable energy solution for the property.
