At Le Coq Noir Country Style & Living in France, we have a special appreciation for traditional poultry breeds and the beauty of country life. The Sebastopol goose is one of the most remarkable domestic goose breeds, admired for its extraordinary curly feathers, elegant appearance and gentle character.
We are developing our own Sebastopol goose breeding project, with the aim of raising healthy young geese and making them available to fellow enthusiasts and breeders.
The Sebastopol goose originates from south-eastern Europe, particularly the regions around the Black Sea and the lower Danube. The breed takes its name from the port city of Sebastopol on the Crimean Peninsula.
Introduced to Western Europe during the nineteenth century, Sebastopol geese quickly attracted attention for their unusual, long and curled feathers. Today, they remain a distinctive ornamental breed, treasured by poultry keepers and breeders around the world.
Sebastopol geese are medium-sized domestic geese, instantly recognisable by their long, soft and curled plumage.
Their unusual feathers give them an elegant appearance unlike that of most other domestic goose breeds.
At Le Coq Noir, we are not only keeping Sebastopol geese for their beauty; we also plan to breed them ourselves.
Our aim is to raise young Sebastopol geese with care and attention, giving them a good start in life before they move to their new homes.
As our breeding project develops, young Sebastopol geese will be available for sale, subject to breeding success and seasonal availability. They may be suitable for enthusiasts looking to start their own flock, experienced breeders wishing to expand their breeding programme, or keepers who appreciate this exceptional ornamental breed.
Availability will depend on the breeding season, the number of goslings hatched and their development. Please contact us for information about upcoming hatchings, availability and reservations.
Sebastopol geese need suitable outdoor space, grass for grazing and foraging, clean bathing water and a dry, sheltered house. Their loose, curled feathers provide less protection from prolonged wet and cold conditions than the tighter plumage of many other goose breeds.
Good care, appropriate nutrition and protection from extreme weather are important for keeping these birds healthy and maintaining their beautiful plumage.
Our Sebastopol geese are part of our wider love of country living, traditional breeds and farm animals here in the French countryside.
Whether you are interested in keeping ornamental geese, starting a breeding flock or simply discovering these fascinating birds, we would be delighted to hear from you.
